Studying for the Celebration

Ok, so the last posted question asked me how to study for the celebration and what to know.

How to study...
I suggest going through each page of what you have to cover and thinking of what could be asked. What would make a good long answer question? What are the most important topics under each main idea?

For example, the first topic you guys encountered was Human Health, so the digestive system (SB2 – pp. 154-182), what are some potential things you could be asked?

The list I gave you is exactly what you asked me for... 10 diagrams, one of which being the one you've got to draw. You've got to know everything for the Multiple choice and the Short Answer. (ie/there's stuff under the short answer that isn't covered under the list of possible drawings).

I know you hear this over and over, but this is going to be really great practice for later on when you won't know at all how to study, what the break down or the questions will be like. Man...my first year was a nightmare :P

I know you guys can do this, you are all brilliant. You've all demonstrated that you know this material. Take a moment, breathe, please don't freak out.

HEART RATE LAB

Post your resting heart rates here and any other information you think is pertinent.

Some of the things you guys dicussed in class was:
Sex
Weight
Height
Amount of sleep
Activity level (low med and high)

please make a clear indication as to which heart rate is the resting, the 1 coffee and the 3 coffees (although I think they should be pretty obvious).

was that all you discussed? if you want your classmates to add anything else, please leave a comment and I'll add it to this list

Whoops

hey guys
sorry, I forgot the celebration at school, so I'll have to talk to you guys about questions tomorrow.
As for pages in Oxford....
Muscles page 101 (and the 102 for the elbow)

Hope that helps
please write this stuff down because I said it several times in class, and it is posted below in the overall stuff to know

PS: Im sorry to whoever sent the last comment, and to all of you guys. I hope that didn't discourage any of you in posting questions. Please ask anything you're unsure of.

Immmmmune

Sure, I'll talk about immunity. What exactly are you confused on? The Body's response?

The basic breakdown of what happens during an infection is that the body works to recognize everything, including itself, by markers on the outside of the cell.

If a Macrophage discovers something that is not designated "self", it engulfs and digests it...but not completely. Some of the proteins or marks are displayed on the outside of the cell. The associated Tcells come over and recognize this as an infection, and begin to replicate so that there are many in the body, and send out a "seek and destroy" mission to erradicated the rest of the foreign objects.

This also triggers the associated B cells, which check the scene out and begin go replicate via mitosis. now you have a bunch of Bcells, which differentiate into plasma cells (and the antibodies). These are now in your bloodstream, ready to find more bacteria or infected macrophages in order to rid the body of the invaders.

since there are lots floating around, and they stick around for a while, they are called memory cells.

Make sense?

any more questions, please let me know asap

Focus

Hey guys
aight, well this is the list that I gave you in class

Joints
The Digestive system
Reflex Arc
Nerve structure
The Nephron
Sperm structure
Egg Structure
Oogenesis
The heart
Both reproductive structures
The Aveoli
The lungs
Muscles
Sarcomere bands

As for giving you hints...I can't really do that. It's not that I don't love you guys and want you to do well, but this is an assessment to see how much you have learned over the semester. True that I abhor this type of testing, but you have to learn how to play the system.

If you have any questions, I will answer them and we can go over the material in class together.

lol, and if you want to rant on the comments under this one, then by all means, go for it.
