T tests

Hey guys!
Im sooo so sorry that I didn't get to you sooner on this. My internet wasn't working properly and I was just able to check my email now.... I realize that most of you will be in bed right now, so I don't know if this will be of any use to any of you, but here it is anyway

The Ttest is in your SB1 books, and it has a procedure that will make it easy for you to follow. I used Excel because it calculated the Standard devation and means so I didn't ahve to do that by hand.

Simply enter your data into columns and use the "fx" button at the top (look in the statistical tools).

As for organizing it, you are allowed to organize it in any way that you choose. I know there was only 2 guys for the data, so if you want to separate them and see if there is a difference, you can.

There were other factors, such as Athletic abilities that you could separate the data into

Just remember there are 3 Ttests for each group
between 0 and 1 cups of coffee
between 1 and 3
and between 0 and 3

Make sure you have a null Hypothesis (There is no difference, or no effect on heart rate) and an alternative hypothesis (there is a difference or effect on heart rate)

The Ttest is a statistical tool that tells you if there is a difference in the mean of your 2 groups of data, and if there's a difference, if that difference is due to chance or due to another factor (in this case, caffiene).

Degrees of freedom.
Here's an example for you....
If I told you that there are 3 numbers, and if you add 3 numbers together, you get a sum of 10.
How many of those numbers can you pick at random?
You could randomly choose the first 2 numbers (let's say 2 and 5) that makes 7. So, can you randomly choose your third number?

No, because your third number is dictated to you, becuse you know they have to add to the number 10. Your number HAS to be 3.

Soooo, that means that you have 2 choices, or two degrees of freedom. If you have one set of data, then you take the total number of groups and subtract one.
Since our data will have 2 different sets of data to compare, I think that you have to subtract 2 from your total number to get the degrees of freedom.
(it's basically the same...you have about 8 groups for each set of cups of coffee. That's 8+8=16 groups of numbers for each comparison and then subtract 2=14 therefore there are 14 degrees of freedom).

Im not sure if that answers your question
I'll check my email first thing in the morning to see if anyone got this.

p.s. Kyle, I don't have anything posted for your ALD project, could you try doing that again?

ms tenn..im not sure if the t value is right coz i got like 0.18888 and thats not in the t-table so im guessing thats wrong..and what's the significance of the t-value? do you just compare them, but then what does it mean? sorry if this question is repetitive

oops nevermind, i kinda double squared the bottom part..that's why the t value is so small..so you can ignore the previous post

Ms. Tenn

as requested, the following is my explanationof my telephone diagram as it relates to ALD and Lorenzo's oil.
thank you

Explanation of telephone diagrams

Normal

The telephone and cell represent two long chains of saturated VLCFA's. The first source is the DIET(telephone) and the second is the BIOSYNTHESIS (cell). The chains of fatty acids are transported through the ATP into the Peroxisomes (telephone switchboard/cpu) where they are broken down by oxidizing enzymes. When oxidation takes place the myelin sheath/adrenal glands is protected and there is no damage to the brain(frequency poll).

ALD

The telephone and cell represent two long chains of saturated VLCFA's. The first source is the DIET(telephone) and the second is the BIOSYNTHESIS(cell). The chains of fatty acids are transported through the ATP. In ALD patients, the ATP transporter is damaged and the fatty acids cannot get into the Peroxisomes(telephone switchboard/cpu) where they can be broken down. AS aresult, the enzymes cannot go through the oxidation process and the myelin sheath is damaged causing the adrenal glands to malfunction and there is no connection to the brain(frequency poll).

ALD with Lorenzo's Oil

The telephone and cell represent two long chains of saturated VLCFA's. The first source is the DIET(telephone) and the second is the BIOSYNTHESIS(cell). When Lorenzo's oil is administered to a patient, it shuts off the BIOSYNTHESIS(cell). Lorenzo's oil contains large amounts of oleic and uruic acids that help normalize the fat biulbup. Thiw will curtailthe saturated fats and push through the monosaturated fats through the ATPand onto the Peroxisomes(telephone switchboard/cpu) where they can be broken down through the oxidizing process. As a result, the myelin sheath/adrenal glands is protected and there is no damage to the brain(frequency poll)

NOTE:

I used the two sources of telecommunication to represent fatty acids( saturated and monosaturated) because they were similar in function, but different in mobility. The telephone (Land Line) and the cellular phone need to go through a switchboard/cpu in order to get an outside connection. Similar to this is the saturated and monosaturated fats that travel through the ATP to the PEROXISOMES(switchboard/cpu) where it is oxidized(process a connection) to the brain (frequency poll).
