Hormones?

Hey hey
ok, well the answer to the last question is that the two types of hormones are Steroid based and Amino acid based.

Sterioid based are made from cholesterol and are able to penetrate the cell wall and affect the DNA directly
Amino Acid based attach themselves to the outside of the cell and affect change that way

both need an effector protein or site in order to affect change

Since not many of you understood what I was asking for for that question, I gave marks for giving me 2 different contrasting hormones,
One mark for mentioning 2 hormones that contrasted
One mark for telling me how they differed

Many of you didn't tell me how hormones work in general.

I was looking for
- secreted by organs
- transported through the bloodstream
- has a target organ or cell
- is specific to that cell or organ
- takes a long time, but effects longer than the nervous system
- Requires effector cells in order to work
- I even would have excepted anything about endocrine and how it has no ducts...

any of the above mentioned would have gotten you a mark


We spent a good deal of time on them in one class, and I mentioned and quized you guys before class on them....


I understand a little bit better about how to impart what I want you guys to get out of a lesson and I'll try to improve that when I get back in November. I think we'll do something different about note taking

There was a comment made previously that I jump around a lot, and I was wondering if it was the fact that I went from the board back to the Powerpoint slides that made it confusing... should we just take up a note at the end of class instead of me going back and forth?

What do ppl think about this?

I think I'll be doing the cell unit with you guys, and I've already got some fun assignments brewing in my mind... I want to see some creative juices flowing

I dressed up as Katinka Ingobogovinana from Zoolander, and had friends dress up as Mugatu, and Hansel. We went to a haunted house that my teacher friend's drama class made to raise money for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
And No, it wasn't lame...I was acutally really scared!
they planted ppl in the tour that got dragged off into the woods and stabbed
